ThenAgain Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for ThenAgain

This Privacy Policy takes effect on October 26, 2026 and was last updated on October 26, 2026.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

ThenAgain ("we," "us," or "our") operates this app from Louisiana, US. We are responsible for the personal information we handle as described in this policy and, where applicable, act as its data controller.

This policy covers the ThenAgain iPhone app, support communications about the app, app testing, and visits to its privacy-policy and support pages. It explains the difference between information processed inside the app on your device and information we receive through support, our website, or Apple’s developer services.

You can contact us about privacy at [email protected]. Our business location is Louisiana, US.

2. Your photos and information stored on your iPhone

The app lets you take or select two photos, align and edit them individually, compare them using an opacity overlay or a movable diagonal, horizontal, or vertical divider, and create JPEG images, GIF animations, and silent MP4 videos. These operations run on your iPhone. When both comparison photos are saved, the main view uses those saved images rather than a live camera feed; selecting Retake opens the camera without discarding the saved photo before a replacement is confirmed. The app does not upload your photos, camera preview, edits, or exports to a server operated by us or by a photo-processing provider.

The app stores both photos in your current comparison, their framing adjustments, and preferences in its private storage on your device so you can return to your comparison. Stored adjustments include position, zoom, rotation, and aspect ratio. Preferences include the selected photo slot, default reference view, comparison divider position, JPEG divider style and position, grid, flash, timer, adjustment lock, and animation defaults. Opacity is the initial reference view; a default selected in Settings is saved for future launches, while a reference view selected only on the main screen is temporary and resets to that saved default at the next launch. The app also creates working images and temporary export files.

The app preserves the original photo data it receives from the camera or Apple’s photo picker. The picker may supply a converted version of a library photo. Received files may contain embedded metadata, such as capture dates, camera details, or location added by the source. Saving an original to Photos preserves the file received by the app. The app does not request your device’s location, but existing location metadata can remain in an imported original.

The app does not identify people in photos, create biometric identifiers, or use your photos to train artificial intelligence models. A photo or export can still reveal personal information through its visible content or metadata; it should not be assumed to be anonymous or metadata-free.

We cannot view or retrieve photos that remain solely in the app’s storage on your device. You do not need an app account, and the app does not have registration, developer-hosted photo storage, or its own cloud-sync service.

3. Camera and photo permissions

  • Camera: Permission allows the app to show the camera preview and capture still photos for your comparison. The camera stops when the app goes into the background. The camera is also paused while the main view displays a completed saved comparison or you adjust saved photo framing. If you decline camera access, you can still select existing photos using the system picker.

  • Selecting photos: The app uses Apple’s system photo picker to receive images you select. The app does not request permission to browse your entire photo library.

  • Saving to Photos: The app requests permission to add items to your photo library when you choose to save an original or an export. This add-only permission does not authorize the app to read your entire library.

  • Microphone and location: The app does not request microphone or device-location permission. MP4 exports are made from still photos and contain no recorded audio.

You can change camera and photo-saving permissions in your iPhone’s Settings. Revoking permission prevents future access governed by that permission; it does not remove a copy you already imported, saved, or shared. To remove an imported copy, use the app’s photo-clear controls or delete the app as explained in Section 8.

4. Information you choose to send us

If you email support or send a privacy request, we receive your email address, any sender name, your message, email delivery information, and attachments you choose to include. An attachment or screenshot may reveal your photos or other personal information. Please send only what is necessary to explain your request.

We use this information to answer questions, troubleshoot problems, handle privacy requests, and maintain necessary records of those interactions. Providing support information is optional and is not a condition of using the app’s photo features, although we may be unable to resolve a request without enough information to understand it. We do not automatically attach your photo library or comparison files to an email.

5. Apple services, trial access, purchases, diagnostics, and TestFlight

The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs and does not operate its own usage-reporting or crash-reporting service. Apple separately handles App Store distribution, purchases, device services, and, when used, TestFlight.

Free trial and lifetime unlock: The app offers a seven-day free trial through a free, non-consumable App Store trial item. Trial access is calculated from the original verified trial purchase time. An optional lifetime unlock is a one-time non-consumable in-app purchase, priced at US$3.99 in the US; Apple’s localized price is shown before purchase. Starting the trial does not authorize an automatic charge, and the app does not offer a recurring subscription. Capture, imports, photo-framing edits, and GIF, MP4, or JPEG exports require an active trial or lifetime access. Existing saved photos remain available to view, save as originals, or clear without purchasing an unlock.

Purchase information on your device: Apple’s StoreKit provides product and verified transaction information, including product identifiers, original purchase dates, and refund or revocation status. The app processes this information on your device to check trial eligibility, calculate remaining trial access, unlock features, apply revoked access, and restore eligible purchases. Access state is calculated in memory from StoreKit-managed records; the app does not create its own customer account or server-side purchase database. The app does not upload receipts or transaction records to a server operated by us.

Apple’s purchase services: Starting a trial, making a purchase, and choosing Restore Purchases can communicate with Apple through its system services and may require your App Store account. Apple handles payment and account authentication. We do not receive your payment-card number or Apple Account password from Apple. Restore Purchases asks Apple to synchronize eligible purchases; it does not start a new trial period or authorize a new charge. Apple controls its own store records under its policies. See Apple’s App Store & Privacy notice.

App Store installations: Depending on Apple’s services and your settings, Apple may give us relevant app statistics and diagnostics in aggregated or non-identifying form. We use these to understand reliability and improve the app. You can manage ordinary developer analytics sharing in iPhone Settings under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements. See Apple’s App Analytics & Privacy notice.

TestFlight installations: During beta testing, Apple automatically collects and shares crash and usage information with us; this reporting cannot be disabled while testing through TestFlight. Information can include device and app details, installs, sessions, crashes, and, depending on how you were invited, your name and email address. Feedback can include comments and screenshots you submit. We use this information for testing and improving the app and do not share TestFlight information with third parties. You can stop testing through TestFlight and contact us about information we hold. Apple controls its own records and retention. See Apple’s TestFlight & Privacy notice and Apple’s Data and Privacy portal.

6. Sharing, service providers, and your choices

The app does not automatically publish or send your photos to other people. When you use the iOS share sheet, you choose the destination. The receiving app, service, or person then handles the copy under its own practices. We do not control copies you share or the privacy practices of your selected destinations.

If you save a photo or export to Photos, or use a cloud-backed photo library, device backup, or computer backup, Apple or another provider may store or transfer copies according to your settings. Selecting an image stored in iCloud Photos may also cause Apple’s system services to download it. These services are separate from an upload service operated by us.

We may disclose information we actually hold when required by law, in response to valid legal process, or when reasonably necessary and legally permitted to protect people, security, or legal rights. We limit such disclosures to information needed for that purpose. This does not give us access to photos stored solely on your device.

We do not sell or rent personal information, disclose it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. We do not use support or testing information for unrelated marketing or data brokerage.

7. Visits to our website

Opening this policy or a support page connects your browser to our website and its infrastructure, even though editing photos in the app does not upload them. The website’s cookies, browser storage, analytics, third-party tracking, and handling of Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are verified website cookies, tracking, and privacy-signal practices. Any non-essential cookies or similar technologies that require consent are used only after the required consent is obtained, with a way to withdraw that consent.

This website section covers the app’s policy and support pages. It does not describe unrelated website services; review any separate privacy notice that applies to those services. The app does not install advertising cookies or track your activity across other companies’ apps or websites.

8. Retention and deletion

Photos and settings on your device: The current comparison remains in app storage between sessions until you clear or replace photos, or delete the app. In app Settings, choose Clear Before photo or Clear After photo to remove that photo from the current comparison. After a successful clear or replacement, the app attempts to remove the superseded local photo file and invalidates cached exports. If a saved record is damaged or cannot be read, the app may retain original files to avoid accidental data loss until recovery or later successful cleanup. Clearing a photo is not a guarantee of immediate secure erasure of every residual file.

Canceled or interrupted imports can also leave unreferenced original files, which the app attempts to remove during later successful cleanup.

Temporary exports: Generated JPEG, GIF, and MP4 files are kept in temporary app storage for preview, saving, or sharing. The app attempts to remove cached files when they are replaced or invalidated; interrupted sessions or failed cleanup can leave temporary files for later app or operating-system cleanup. They do not have a guaranteed deletion time.

Purchase access records: Apple and StoreKit maintain purchase records for the App Store account used for a trial or unlock. The app checks those records and holds its calculated access state in memory; it does not keep a separate app-owned purchase log. Deleting the app or clearing photos does not erase Apple’s purchase history, revoke an existing purchase, or create a new trial entitlement. Apple provides its own controls for purchase history and refund requests.

Deleting the app and other copies: Using Delete App in iOS removes the app and its local app data; Offload App keeps documents and data. Deleting or clearing the app does not delete originals in your photo library, saved exports, copies you shared, or existing cloud or computer backups. Manage those copies through Photos, the receiving service, or your backup settings. Data can return if you restore an earlier backup.

Testing and diagnostics: We retain developer-held copies of testing feedback and diagnostic records for developer-held testing and diagnostic troubleshooting. Apple manages records held in its own services under its notices; our schedule does not change Apple’s retention.

We may retain particular records longer when required by law or necessary to address a specific dispute or legal claim. Such records are limited to that purpose and removed when the requirement ends. To request deletion of personal information we hold, email [email protected]. We cannot remotely delete files that remain solely on your device or control records held independently by Apple or a service you choose.

9. Security

The app uses iOS app isolation and applies iOS complete file protection to its stored original photo files and comparison record. Protection depends in part on your device, passcode, lock state, operating system, and backup settings. This is not a claim that every temporary file, preference, backup, email, or shared copy has the same protection or is end-to-end encrypted by us.

We limit access to support, website, and testing records to people who need it for the purposes described here and use appropriate account and service-provider security safeguards. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device and accounts secure and consider the content and destination before sharing a photo.

10. International processing and legal bases

Photo editing takes place on your device. Information we receive for support, website operations, testing, or diagnostics may be processed in countries where the operator and relevant service providers process support, website, testing, or diagnostic information. Apple and your chosen sharing or backup providers explain their own international processing in their notices.

Where the EU or UK data protection framework applies to our processing, we rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries, fixing faults, testing reliability, and securing our website, balanced against your rights; performance of a contract for requested trial or purchase access, restoration, or an agreed support service; and legal obligations for required compliance records. Where consent is required, including for non-essential website technologies, we obtain it before that processing. We do not rely on this notice, an iOS permission prompt, or your continued use alone as blanket consent to unrelated processing.

We do not make decisions about you using automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not profile you for those purposes.

11. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on the law that applies to you and the information involved, you may have rights to obtain information about our processing, access or receive a copy of personal information, correct it, request deletion or restriction, obtain portable data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before it occurred. Where available, you may also use an authorized agent, appeal a denied request, and exercise your rights without unlawful discrimination.

Send a request or an appeal to [email protected] and identify the action you want us to take. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity or an agent’s authority, and we respond within the period required by applicable law. We will explain any lawful limitation or refusal and any available appeal route. You do not need to send your photo library or identity documents unless reasonably necessary for a particular request.

Because we do not have access to photos stored solely on your device, use the app and iOS controls in Sections 3 and 8 to manage those copies. No app-account deletion process is needed because the app does not create user accounts. For information controlled independently by Apple, you can also use Apple’s Data and Privacy portal.

Where applicable, you may complain to your local data protection regulator, including an EU supervisory authority or the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, without first contacting us. We would also welcome the opportunity to address your concern directly.

12. Children’s privacy

The app is a general-audience photo tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through support, our website, or testing. Photos of children can be processed locally like other photos without being sent to us. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact [email protected] so we can investigate and remove it as required by applicable law. Parents and guardians should help children manage device permissions and photo sharing.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, our practices, or applicable requirements change. We will publish the revised policy on this page and update its last-updated date. For material changes, we will also provide any additional notice required by law and obtain consent before new processing where required. A policy update does not itself authorize a new use of personal information that requires separate permission.

The current policy is available at https://www.garrettwheat.com/posts/thenagain and through the app’s Settings.
